20 MILE THAMES WALK 2009! Organized by Lizzie and Jo
As in 2008, this year’s Thames Towpath Walk was an absolutely amazing success. Over 80 walkers came from far and wide, joining together at Hampton Court Bridge in anticipation of the 9.30 start.
The day began with a most enjoyable work out to make sure that every body was warmed up before the walk began – an impressive sight for passers-by and a fantastic photo opportunity for our photographer, Chryssie. Then the serious business of walking 20 miles began. Our thanks go to the team of volunteers who handed out drinks and refreshments at various landmarks along the way ensuring that our fabulous walkers were fed and watered. and who also gave support and encouragement to all.
The first to cross the finish line at Battersea Park, with a very impressive time of 4 hours 45 minutes, was Gemma Ronte – congratulations Gemma and thanks for being such a great pace maker for everybody else.
Some of the walkers had still not crossed the line at 5.30 but it is believed that they were doing some research on London ’s pubs along the way!
Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day – there was even a series of challenges en route between the three teams of graduates who all came from Cap Gemini Consulting and who looked stunning in their array of colourful outfits.
We cannot begin to tell you how grateful we are to everybody who supported the walk and we are delighted to tell you that, thanks to your efforts, you have already raised a staggering £23,138.38 between you and this figure continues to rise daily. This figure well and truly exceeds our target of £20,000 and we will let you know the final figure as soon as the money stops flooding in.
We know that many of you had aches, pains and blisters to be proud of but hope that the fact that your input will allow us to make a difference to children affected by myotubular myopathy helps to ease that in some small way.
And finally, our heartfelt thanks go to Lizzie and Jo, without whom this event simply wouldn’t have happened. They are the driving force behind this event and we will remain forever indebted to them for taking on the enormous task of arranging such a successful event again this year. Thank you both.
Enjoy too the stunning photography, courtesy of Chrysoulla Rosling.
