The Cumpana Fun Run in memory of Tom Lennox: 1st July 2007

While our own London 10K took place on Sunday 1st July 2007, in Cumpana, Jud Constanta, Romania, another
charity run was organised with the help of the Primar of Cumpana and Sinclair Stevenson and was attended by Karen Vardy
a parent affected by Myotubular Myoathy.
An estimated 400 children and adults ran in a series of three charity fun races and more will joined in with an evening
of organised fun and entertainment, all in aid of Myotubular Trust.

From 6.00pm on Sunday 1st July some very special fun runs took place in a town on the east coast of Romania, called Cumpana, which involved over 400 children and adults. This event was organised to help raise money for Myotubular Trust and in memory of Tom Lennox.. The event was attended and by Myotubular Trust parent representative, Karen Vardy, whose own son Jack had myotubular myopathy and sadly died on his 1st birthday in February this year.

Wonderful prizes and the Tom Lennox Trophy were offered to the first three placings in each category. Commemorative t-shirts with the Myotubular Trust logo and race details were on sale too.

The Cumpana village school was closely involved in the event too and a flag decorated by one of the children was chosen to represent the Cumpana Fun Run used to start each race! You can see Anne Lennox holding this flag in the photograph below.

After the races, the fun started, with a prize-giving ceremony, a comedy show given by a well-known Romanian acting troupe, music from the lead singer of Boney M, and, a firework display and dancing!

We would like to thank the Primar of Cumana for her help in facilitating this event, and a heartfelt thanks to Sinclair Stevenson, Oara and Raluca Apostol for their organisation and for inspiring the wonderfully kind people of Cumpana to help children with Myotubular Myopathy, in memory of Sinclair's young friend Tom Lennox.
