Gus Carroll's Double Sports Challenge

Transition 1 (swim to bike)

Transition 2 (bike to run)

Gus finishes in 1.34.07!!

Gus in training for his triathlon and 10K run!

Gus Carroll is entering not one, but two sporting events for the Myotubular Trust this year. His first ever triathlon event, the Dorney Lake Evening Triathlon took place on May 12th. His second challenge, a 10K race, will follow 2 months later on 11th July, at the British London 10K.

Gus reported back from the triathlon as follows: "It started with the 750m swim, which got off to a bad start when I was kicked in the face and my goggles came off.  After that I could not really see where I was going and went on a zig zag route up the course, losing loads of time.

Transition 1 (swim to bike) was slow as I had not anticipated how cold I would be and get my Myotubular T shirt on was a real struggle.  Anyway, that done I then went and did the best bike time I have done so far (20km in 39mins) which I was really pleased with.

Transition 2 (bike to run) was fine although the run started with some difficulty as my feet were numb from the bike and my legs were a bit like jelly.  Anyway, I soon got into my stride and did a moderate run, although I think I could have gone faster.

My timings were:
Swim - 21.50
T1 - 3.07
Bike - 39.38
T2 - 1.22
Run - 28.08
TOTAL - 1.34.07

Before the race, I had set myself a target of 1.35 so I was delighted with my time.  I am already thinking about my next race and I determined to get sub 1.30!!

Regarding sponsorship, the Bmycharity latest is £1,839.62.  However, I have also received an additional £125 in cheques and Centrica will give a £150 contribution.

Therefore the total raised is £2,114.62.

I have really enjoyed everything about this event.  Raising the money gave me tremendous satisfaction for such a great cause, and (to my wife, Andi's dismay) I have caught the triathlon bug!!"

Meanwhile, Gus is now looking forward to the London 10K run which takes place on Sunday 11th July, and we already have 8 children represented with so far by 48 runners! To sign up, please read more about this on our London 10K page.

Gus, his wife Andi, and their sons Callum and Toby have been loyal supporters of Myotubular Trust since 2006, because family friend Zak, suffers from x-linked myotubular myopathy. Gus has run the 10K three times already, and has even had his head clean shaven to raise big funds to buy research for myotubular myopathy (see below pictures left)! He has also succeeded in securing corporate matched funding for many of the events he’s entered, and coupled with this triathlon and other events such as sponsored car washes and coffee mornings that the Carroll family have organised over the past 4 years, they have raised us just over a staggering £6,000, which is incredible!

We would like to extend a big congratulations to Gus for achieving a wonderful time in his first triathlon and say a big 'thank you' to Gus, Andi, Callum and Toby for their amazing efforts for the Trust over the years.

If you would like to sponsor Gus please visit his fundraising page.
