We are delighted that Johanna Martin and Lizzie Geffen have very kindly offered to organise the third Thames Towpath walk in support of the Trust. This years’ walk will take place on Saturday 8th May 2010. Johanna and Lizzie told us, ‘The walk has been such a huge success over the past two years and has raised in excess of £50,000 for the Myotubular Trust. Everybody who has taken part has had such a great time (despite the blisters!) and so much fun that by popular demand. We love the day ourselves and would really like this years’ to be even bigger and better than in previous years, although that will take some doing!’. See photos of last year's walk. |

The first ever Myotubular Trust 20 mile Thames Walk was arranged by three of our wonderful supporters, Lizzie, Jo and Laura, in 2008, as they really wanted to make a difference.

‘We became involved when one of the girls in our NCT class, Anne Lennox, had a baby boy called Tom, born with Myotubular Myopathy. Sadly after bravely fighting the condition for almost 4 years Tom died in May 2007. It is great to think that we are doing something so positive to remember him by and to support other families with children with myotubular myopathy.’ Lizzie, Jo and Laura |
We walk along a 20 mile stretch of the Thames towpath starting at Hampton Court and ending at Battersea Park. The walk starts at 9.30am and finishes around 4-5pm, dependent upon your speed. It is a lovely route – lots to look at and nice pubs, many of which were visited by one team of walkers last year! We hope that families will be able to take part this year and that it will be possible to cycle part of the route. Children may like to do this with their mums, dads, friends or grandparents who aren’t taking part in the walk – they could then get involved and get sponsored too. Unfortunately, it won’t be possible to cycle the whole route – more information will follow but please let us know if you are interested.
So, do you fancy getting fit for the summer and doing something positive for children affected by myotubular myopathy? We really hope you will join us – it will be great FUN!
