Due to ever increasing demand, the third Myotubular Trust candlelit Christmas concert was once again held at the beautiful St Luke’s Church, Balham. The snow that had been forecast the week before didn’t materialise much to the relief of the bagpiper player who performs at the church entrance to greet the guests.

Once inside and out of the cold, our guests were welcomed with the now traditional warm glass of mulled wine and freshly baked mince pies.

We were then treated to a wonderful programme of music, carols and readings beautifully delivered by an array of talented performers who so generously donated their time and expertise, in support of the Trust.

The 2012 concert was again seamlessly stage managed by Step Parikian, General Manager, London Chamber Orchestra.

The concert opened with the Messiah Overture played by members of the orchestra of the Royal Opera House. This was then followed by a mixed programme of readings, beautiful musical pieces and carols which we all got to stand and sing along to. We closed with a rousing rendition of ‘The Hallelujah Chorus’ – the perfect end to a perfect evening!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many talented musicians who supported the concert and provided us with such beautiful music; the many members of the orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Ben Johnson, tenor, Marika Lombardi, oboe, Andrea de Flammineis, bassoon, and the members of the Thomas’ Choral Society and their conductor, Scott Inglis-Kidger.

Our thanks go also to Michael Maloney, Stella Gonet and Nicholas Farrell who all did readings. We would also like to thank Duncan Collins, whose little boy. Will, had myotubular myopathy, for his deeply moving speech..

We hope that you enjoy the stunning photos courtesy of Chrysoulla Kyprianou, to whom we are very grateful.

And finally, we would also like to thank the team of volunteers who one again arranged and supported the event so beautifully and made it possible and, of course, the many guests who joined us to make the evening so special.

We heard from so many of you on Friday night that the concert now marks the beginning of the Christmas period and that it is ‘magical’.

We are delighted that you enjoy it just as much as we do

Thank you!
